House Radcliffe Estate
A very modern residence in an exclusive mountain-top security estate, with a very steep slope and breathtaking views overlooking the Union Buildings in the distance.
We have done work for the new owners in the past and understood their design style and requirements. A very strict height restriction forced the residence downhill to clear the view for the neighbour behind. This resulted in a low pitch, with concrete slabs surrounding the main roof.
The house consists of four levels cascading down the steep hill; with the main bedroom suite right at the top at the far edge, overlooking the view and Union Buildings across the valley. The 20 m drop from the balcony to the site below was proof of the tremendously difficult site.
A glass inlay in the foyer floor overlooking a grand piano on the level below, as well as a full glass elevator serving the 4 levels, all formed part of the client’s requirements.
